If you are one of my students trying to hand in an assignment, or anyone needing a screen shot, here’s how it’s done.

On a Mac

Command shift  3
Full screen
Your Mac captures the entire screen and saves it as a file on the desktop. The file name will look like “Screen shot 2016-02-04 at 08.45.00 AM.png”.

Command shift 4
Partial screen, move the  cross hairs or cross over what you want a screen shot.

Use your mouse to draw a rectangle in order to specify what to capture – or press the spacebar and then click on something (e.g. a window) to capture it. Your Mac then saves it as a file on the desktop. The file name will look like “Screen shot 2016-02-04 at 08.45.00 AM.png”.
